Oscar Pierre MATHIEU 1845-1881
A pupil of Tissier, Cabanel and Cogniet, Oscar-Pierre Mathieu was an academic painter specializing in portraits and subjects from ancient and biblical history, which he exhibited at the Salon between 1864 and 1881, many of which were acquired by the State for placement in public buildings.
He won the Prix de Rome three times, once in first place and twice in second.
