Offered by Mora Antiques
An exceptional French mantel clock from the Louis XVI period, exquisitely crafted in gilt bronze and white marble. The finely enamelled dial is signed Léron à Paris and is surmounted by the Roman goddess Ceres, symbol of fertility, harvest, and natural abundance. She holds sheaves of wheat and flowers, embodying classical grace and serenity.
Flanking her are two playful putti, each seated on a dog – a rare iconographic motif symbolising loyalty and protection. The white marble base is adorned with finely chased gilt bronze appliqués, depicting classical scenes in relief and a central sun motif – possibly referencing Apollo or the passage of time itself.
A rare and refined masterpiece of late 18th-century Parisian bronze craftsmanship, where allegory, artistry, and neoclassical elegance converge.
