Two-well inkwell and double candlestick. Cast and mercury-gilt bronze. Excellent casting and perfect carving. No signature.
Good condition, original gilding, no restorations. Only the hinge of one inkwell has been resoldered and a screw thread replaced. Some oxidation, worn gilding on the top. Not cleaned for a very long time. Superb work attributable to one of the best workshops of this period; a specialist should be able to identify it.
Louis XVI period, late 18th century.
