17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
A very attractive Louis XVI period mantelpiece with the Attributes of Music and its two candelabras, in white Carrara marble, adorned with rich ornamentation of finely chiseled gilded bronzes:
The two geometrically shaped columns are decorated with sheathed cherubs, urns, and rosettes and are topped with two seated putti in motion.
The lower part of the dial is adorned with elegant drapery, chains, tassels imitating braid, and a Sun King pendulum.
The suspension is embellished with a laurel branch and the attributes of Music: a hunting horn, music sheet, and a large lyre topped with two bird heads. The clock is mounted on a rectangular Carrara marble base with a slight indentation and adorned with finely chiseled plaques and rosettes.
The two-armed candelabra also feature beautiful ornamentation.
The square bases, highlighted with garlands and pearls, support truncated fluted columns on which rest putti. One sits on a sphere flanked by a cornucopia, the other straddles a bird with outstretched wings.
Each putti carries a vase on one shoulder from which flow a lush foliage and flowers. The rose-shaped sockets are topped with pearl-embellished candlesticks.
The white enamel dial indicates the hours in Arabic numerals with two finely openwork hands.
The movement has been fully serviced by our clockmaker and is in perfect condition. It is a silk-wire suspension movement. It chimes the hours and half-hours.
