Important bronze group with its original medal patina, depicting a shepherd playing with a kid. Signed Raymond Barthélemy on the circular base.

BARTHELEMY Raymond (1833-1902) a student at the Paris Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1857, he exhibited at the Salon from 1859, winning major prizes in 1860, 1867, 1869 and 1889.
In 1868, the Service d'achat aux artistes vivants acquired “Berger jouant avec un chevreau” (“Shepherd playing with a kid”), a bronze sculpture weighing 182 kg that the artist had created in Rome in 1866. In 1931, this work was entrusted to the commune of Neuvic, where it has adorned the Chevrier fountain since 1987.
