Roman engraved gold amuletic bead, 3rd–4th century AD.

An ancient engraved gold amuletic bead.

Roman, 3rd–4th century AD.

Dimensions: 3 × 0.5 × 0.5 cm.

Weight: 4.17 grams.

A finely crafted hollow gold bead with a square profile, each of its four faces engraved with the inscriptions: ZEYC, CAPA, ? IC, and EIC’. Likely intended as an amuletic object, the inscriptions suggest a syncretic blend of Greek and Latin, possibly invoking protective or religious significance.

Provenance: Private English Collection, assembled between the late 1970s and early 1990s.
