Large white figurine from China, Dehua 17th century

CHINA, DEHUA,

Large figurine in Chinese white porcelain representing the goddess Guanyin, standing in a draped robe holding a fruit in one hand. Removable head wearing a bun.
KANGXI period (1662-1722)
Height: 67 cm

A number of these large figurines can be found in the great Royal Houses of Europe, placed on sconce brackets (Amalienborg Palace, the Palace of Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland in Dresden, Charelottenburg Palace in Berlin, etc.).

Much of the porcelain from Dehua (Fujian Province) is known in the West as ‘Chinese White’. It has been made since the Ming dynasty and is renowned for its ‘Ivory White’ or ‘Milky White’ colour, due to the quality of the local deposits used in its manufacture.
