Suite of four armchairs from the Directoire period, attributed to Jacob-Des

This set of four Directoire-style armchairs in mahogany, attributed to Jacob-Desmalter, features a clean and original design that reflects the classic elegance of the 18th century. The connection between the legs and the armrests is particularly unique: each armrest ends with a caryatid bust, representing an Egyptian woman, sculpted in wood with braids tied across her chest, extending perpendicularly to the armrest. This distinctive detail adds a sculptural dimension to the piece, highlighting the attention to detail.

The straight front legs and the Etruscan-style rear legs complete the balance of the structure, adding a dynamic visual element.

The upholstery, carried out by Maison Brazet (now Maison Lachèze), continues the tradition of classic upholstery techniques. The chair features cuvette padding and a feather cushion, following 18th-century methods. The traditional animal hair padding, rigid and durable, is meticulously applied using ancient techniques, ensuring exceptional longevity and optimal comfort for the furniture.

The seat cushion, made of half-down (a blend of down and feathers), is finished with a Burgundy cable trim. The fabric from Pierre Frey offers an elegant contrast with the mahogany wood, while respecting the aesthetic of the period's furniture.

In excellent condition, this set represents the essence of Directoire furniture.
