This rare small private devotional panel with unusual iconography represents the miracle of Soriano.
The scene is located in Soriano in Calabria, in the south of Italy.
In 1530: a community of Dominican friars was upset at not having the means to decorate their church. The Virgin accompanied by Saint Catherine and Mary Magdalene then appeared to one of the monks to offer them the painted portrait of their founder, Saint Dominic de Guzman.
