This precious little Flemish private devotional painting dates from the early 17th century.
The charming subject depicts the infant Jesus sleeping, surrounded by angels, with Mary sewing in a Renaissance-furnished room. Note the refinement of the cradle and the richness of the fabrics!
This painting was created by the Antwerp painter Pieter I Lisaert (1595-1629), who left us a large number of meticulously-executed works in smooth, fine glazes of shimmering color, mostly on copper or wood panel.
Our painting is a fine example!
Very good condition for a work from this period. The colors have retained their original freshness.
