A large rare and realistic elephant sculpture by Guglielmo Pugi (1850 - 1915) This beautiful marble statue was made around 1900-1910). The Italian sculptor Guglielmo Pugi, born in 1850 in Fiesole (Tuscany, Italy), is a master of the Art Nouveau style. Pugi lived in Florence until his death in 1915 and founded his workshop "Guglielmo i figli" with his two sons Gino and Fiorenzo. His sculptures, carved directly from alabaster or Carrara marble (white or veined). It is very famous for its beautiful human figures and busts. His animal sculptures are very rare. The elephant has a particular and strong character. He is physically large and strong, but also calm and gentle. For many people, the elephant is the symbol of strength, wisdom, kindness, happiness and longevity. Dimensions: 69 x 55 x20 cm
