Nymph of Diana from Eugène Aizelin (1821-1902)

Bronze group titled “Nymph of Diana” representing the goddess of the hunt accompanied by her greyhound who quenches her thirst at a spring. The sculptor Eugène Aizelin entrusted the edition of this bronze work to the founder Barbedienne in 1887 (during his lifetime and under his control). This copy is in very good condition with its original patina. Signature of the sculptor, Barbedienne and Achille Collas cast iron stamps, monogram and numbering under the base.
Eugène Antoine Aizelin (1821/1902) was born in Paris, student at the School of Fine Arts in 1844, he exhibited from 1852 at the Salon (of French Artists) until 1897, favoring mythological subjects or allegories , he received a gold medal for a bronze subject presented at the Universal Exhibition of 1889. Eugène Antoine Aizelin received the Legion of Honor in 1867 and was elevated to the rank of Officer of the same order in 1892.
