Historical background:
André-Antoine Lardin obtained his master's degree in 1750 and set up shop on rue de Charenton under the sign "au bois de Boulogne". He worked there until 1770, when he moved to rue Saint Nicolas. His output was considerable.
His furniture, in all styles (Louis XIV, Louis XV, Transition, Louis XVI), is beautifully crafted, with classical shapes and decorations.
The woods used are rosewood and violetwood, inlaid with leaves or butterfly wings and framed in dark rosewood.
Lardin's hallmark was his stamp, boldly applied in very large letters to several parts of the same piece of furniture.
Museums: Carnavalet, Paris.
