Hirado porcelain monkey, Japan 19th century

Monkey holding a longevity peach in his hand. Kyushu porcelain, Mikawachi kilns for the lords of Hirado. The animal is dressed in a kimono. The porcelain is pure white covered with transparent glaze. The face is tinted pink, the peach is enameled in iron brown and cobalt blue. End of the Edo period.
The LACMA houses a similar monkey but of less good quality, less precise carving, dull enamels, inelegant shape of the feet and hands, probably made for export.
Good condition.
