Offered by Marc Menzoyan
Bronze statuette representing Phryne, famous courtesan of Greek antiquity, directly inspired by the painting painted in 1861 by Jean-Léon Gérome. Favorite theme of the great sculptors of the nineteenth century, it is to Alexandre Falguière born in Toulouse (1831/1900) that we owe the original created in 1869. Published by different founders in several formats, the proposed model was produced by Barbedienne (its last publisher) from 1929 (first part of the twentieth century)
Very nice state of presentation original brown-green patina, signature and stamp of founder on the base.
