Flat desk in amaranth, mid 18th century

Dimensions : Width 117cm / Depth 66cm / Height 78cm

This elegant desk is relatively small, but the balance of its proportions is remarkable. It is a Parisian work executed in the Louis XV period, as the fine oak stains in the drawers attest. The master cabinetmaker did not sign his work as is common for this type of furniture. He made a desk for which the client wanted a bronze trim in the Regency style, especially for the drop handles of the drawers.

Among the high-end features of this desk is the recessed center drawer that gives the user comfort and at the same time punctuates the line of the belt. The chasing of the bronzes is very accomplished, and the beautiful gilding contrasts with the amaranth, a superb species of exotic wood found on the most beautiful 18th century productions. The cabinetmaker's choice was to use only one type of wood for a pure line.

In keeping with the other characteristics of quality, this desk is decorated on all its sides, thanks to the realization on the opposite large side of false drawers in projections and decorated with the same ornamentation of bronzes. The work on the legs is very elaborate, with a strong curve that the large section allows; but the line of these four legs is slender thanks to the fifth carved panel on their inner side.
