Allegorical statue representing a young woman rising in the clouds, arms back holding her hair adorned with flowers. Bronze of late nineteenth century (old cast) in good condition of presentation, nuanced medal patina, signature Pollet on the base. This variant edited after the original marble sculpture (where two cherubs appeared) is also known under the titles: "The Twilight" or "The Night", the marble was presented at the Salon in 1850 and the bronze version for the Universal Exhibition of 1855.
Joseph Michel-Ange Pollet was born in Sicily of French parents, trained by Villareale and Thorwaldsen, inspired by neoclassical and romanticism, he made many trips to Europe and it was in 1846 that he settled permanently in Paris. Obtaining numerous medals, he will respond to important national commissions and his works will be present in the most prestigious buildings. He received the Legion of Honor in 1856.
