The Genius of dance, Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1827-1875)

The Genius of dance, bronze statue signed JB CARPEAUX on its base, dated 1873 with the presence of the stamps of Property Carpeaux and the Imperial Eagle. Famous subject from the original marble group installed in front of the Paris Opera in 1869. Original medal patina with alterations and wear of seniority,tambourine replaced in accordance with the original.
Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1827/1875) arrived in Paris in 1838 and learned drawing and sculpture at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, he entered the Beaux-Arts of Paris in 1844 with François Rude as a teacher, a brilliant student he won the Prix de Rome in 1854 and resided at the Villa Medici in 1856. Back in France in 1862 and noticed by Napoleon III he obtained many public commissions including the exterior decorations of the Pavillon de Flore in Paris. Among the most important sculptors of the nineteenth century, today his works are presented and appreciated throughout the world.
