Claude Deruet (circa 1588-1660) was a 17th century baroque painter from Nancy, France. Little is known of his life to date, but we do know that he painted, among other things, portraits of famous women dressed in generally rich costumes and adorned with beautiful jewels (notably pearls). His works are all more or less the same size. The panel that we are presenting today is in keeping with the production that is given to the artist and its quality is particularly careful. The small impasto found on the whole costume, the realistic modelling of the face and the interesting psychology of the character that shines through, make this a "special" painting.
Nice state of conservation.
