A champlevé enamel plaque from a reliquary chasse.

French, Limoges, circa 1200 - 1250.

Measures 13.5 x 6.7cm.

The shape of this plaque indicates that it originally formed the end of a reliquary casket or 'chasse' assembled in Limoges, France, to house relics, the male figure represents an apostle.

Mounted on an early 20th century velvet covered display stand which measures 19 x 10cm.

There are some visible, old restorations to the enamel which can be seen in the images.
