Louis XVI Commode, Stamped Molitor

Chest of drawers from the Louis XVI period (circa 1790) in mahogany, lemon tree, amaranth, on an oak frame. It opens with three drawers in three rows, the rounded rudent fluted uprights extended by tapered ringed feet. Drop ring pull hands and gilt bronze keyholes. Veined Sainte-Anne gray marble top. Stamped B MOLITOR and hallmark of Jurande Bernard MOLITOR (1755-1833) received Master in 1787.

Bernard Molitor, French cabinetmaker born October 22, 1755 in Betzdorf ("Country Duchy of Luxembourg and County of Chiny") and died November 17, 1833 in Fontainebleau. Son of a Luxembourg miller, he was received as a master cabinetmaker in 1787.
