Pair of French Regence period candlesticks (1715-1723), early 18th century

Pair of torches and their bobeches in chiseled and silvered bronze. Very beautiful ornamentation of foliage, flowers, foliage, braces, shells, moldings, gadroons.

French Regence period (1715-1723).

The art of the chaser has been practiced on almost every surface of this splendid pair of torches, making a superb and rare illustration of the style. Both very ornamental and very sober, this pair of torches exemplarily illustrates the stylistic balance of great elegance to which the decorative arts rose under the Regence.
The patina of time, which affects the legibility of certain parts of the decor, makes these pieces all the more moving and historically fascinating.
