Terracotta man's head - Genoese School, 17th century

This beautiful terracotta head sculpted in applique bears the signature of the famous French sculptor Pierre Puget, whose career is particularly marked in Genoa. It is also in this city that certain works of the Roman sculptor Alessandro Algardi are preserved and admired, and more particularly his bust of Saint John The Evangelist (Church of Santi Vittore e Carlo) which seem to have inspired our artist.
