Giovanni Francesco GRIMALDI (1606 - 1680) - Project for the interior decoration of Roman palaces

Giovanni Francesco GRIMALDI (Bologna, 1606 - Rome, 1680)
This rich decorative project, probably intended for a Roman aristocratic palace, is composed of a large molded panel surmounted by a crowned eagle (a heraldic piece of furniture evoking a number of families such as the Giustiniani), three fluted pilasters topped with capitals and associated with three ancient busts presented on imposing "sgabelloni" framing a niche housing a standing Roman statue. The door is surmounted by an antique bust inscribed in an oculus decorated with an antique helmet.
Provenance : Private collection
Comparative Bibliography: N. Turner, Roman Baroque Drawings c. 1620 to c. 1700, London 1999
Very nice conservation.
