Flemish School of the seventeenth century
oil on canvas

Dimensions (cm): canvas 47 x 58
with neoclassical gilt frame 60 x 70 cm

The present painting, executed with great attention to composition, represents a splendid landscape, taking into account the dictates of Flemish painting of the seventeenth century, close to reality, where the descriptive details are the typical elements of their pictorial aesthetics. In particular, the work is attributable to the hand of the Dutchman Karel Dujardin, a student of Nicolaes Berchem, who has formed most of his prolific career in Italy.

In our work, a family of shepherds is immortalized in a time of rest from work, so as not to lose sight of their group of herds. The mother, sitting on the back of a mule, gives cherries to her men, in a gesture of tender tenderness.
