Hyacinthe Rigaud workshop circa 1690 - Portrait of a lord in armor

Oil on canvas. This rare and realistic French portrait of the 17th century is a painting from the workshop of Hyacinthe Rigaud. Its quality is such that the man displays a real presence and exudes a great strength. With a sure look, our lord is wearing a high leonine wig (in vogue in the kingdom since 1680). A crop of fine lace tied at the neck protrudes from the armor. The treatment of light that clings to the armor is remarkable.
In its original frame in carved and gilded wood with flowers and foliage.

Dimensions: 72 x 58 cm sight - 88 x 74,5 cm with frame

Very Good conditions. Small old restorations. Relined.

Hyacinthe Rigaud, born Jacint Rigau-Ros i Serra (Perpignan 18.07.1659 - Paris 29.12.1743), is one of the most famous French portraitists of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Arrived in Paris in 1681, he obtained the prize of Rome in 1682. He received the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1700 and climbed all the steps of this institution. His work is abundant. He owes his fame to his talent, but also to his fidelity to the Bourbons which he painted during four generations. Many portraits of the members of the dynasty are due to him: Louis XIV, Louis of France Duke of Burgundy, Louis-Alexandre Count of Toulouse or Louis XV.
