Exceptional desk in solid molded and carved walnut, decorated with poppy motifs.
The raised superstructure: Fully functional, it incorporates two small side drawers surmounted by open compartments, framing a central letter holder with curved dividers. The upper back panel is magnificently adorned with precious wood marquetry depicting stylized poppy seed pods and buds.
The desktop: Harmoniously curved and shaped, it retains its original leather writing surface, beautifully patinated with age.
The legs and ornamentation: Solidly constructed in walnut, the desk rests on curved, tapered legs. The upper joints and apron are finely carved in low relief with naturalistic floral motifs. All the fittings, including the drawer pulls and knobs, are entirely original, made of finely chased bronze with a period green patina.
Very fine original condition, with a superb waxed finish.
