This bronze equestrian statuette depicts Louis XIV, the Sun King, in a triumphant and commanding pose. The king wears Roman-inspired armour, a flowing cloak and an abundant curled wig. He holds the reins in one hand and raises a baton of command in the other, emphasizing his military authority.
The horse is depicted in dynamic movement, with one foreleg raised, while its mane and tail sweep into lively curves. The refined chasing highlights the armour, drapery, saddle, harness and the animal’s musculature. The warm brown patina accentuates the relief and movement of the composition. The work is presented on a rectangular dark wooden socle.
