A free spirit, Maurice Louvrier joined Joseph Delattre’s studio on Rue des Charrettes in 1896, after spending a year at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rouen. There, he rediscovered the pleasure of painting outdoors and benefited from the master’s advice.
A great admirer of Cézanne, he became a master of still life and plein-air painting, depicting both rural landscapes and scenes along the Seine.
Like his teacher Joseph Delattre, he excelled in conveying the many forms of mist, fog and smoke, as well as the subtle atmospheric variations from sunrise to sunset.
