A silver-plated six-bottle decanter stand by Christofle, France, dating from the late 19th century.
Of generous proportions, the stand is conceived in an elegant Louis XVI Revival style and displays the refined craftsmanship for which the celebrated Parisian house of Christofle became internationally renowned.
The rectangular stand is richly decorated throughout and fitted with six circular bottle holders, each bordered with delicate beaded ornament. The upper section is supported by beautifully modelled seated putti, giving the piece a particularly sculptural and architectural character.
The lower plateau is surrounded by classical mouldings and raised on elaborate scrolling feet decorated with foliage. The front is centred by an oval medallion bearing an engraved period monogram, framed by laurel branches and surmounted by a finely modelled ribbon bow.
The combination of the sculptural putti, classical ornament, generous dimensions and sophisticated silver-plated finish makes this a particularly striking example of French luxury tableware.
The piece bears Christofle marks and production numbers.
A rare and highly decorative object, equally impressive displayed as a centrepiece on a dining table, sideboard or drinks table.
