An Établissement Gallé vase from the landscape series—specifically the Rio de Janeiro pattern—featuring a continuous design executed in deep acid-etched relief. The scene depicts trees and palm trees in the foreground and a panoramic view of Botafogo Bay. The decoration is rich in detail, including the Church of the Immaculate Conception (founded in 1854 by Emperor Dom Pedro II) and Mount Corcovado in the background. Signed "Gallé" within the design. These tropical landscape designs inspired by the city of Rio are extremely rare; the series comprises only half a dozen distinct patterns, with an estimated total production of 200 vases.
