Jasmine-inlaid cabinet, second half of the 17th century

A rectangular rosewood cabinet comprising, in the central section, a three-drawer compartment opening via a small door flanked by two veneered wooden pilasters with bronze Ionic capitals, supporting a temple entablature decorated with jasmine flowers in light wood and ivory; the small door, itself decorated in the centre with a large bouquet of jasmine flowers, is flanked by a series of nine drawers – four on either side and one at the base – each edged with a band of ivory and stained wood, and decorated with bouquets of jasmine flowers and ivory.
The cabinet stands on an original base from the same period, comprising a rectangular cross-brace itself decorated with flowers; supporting, at the front, four fluted columns in blackened wood and, at the rear, two lilies, with a band opening onto three drawers, themselves decorated with flowers. The piece features two sides decorated with bouquets of flowers set within geometric patterns of ivory fillets.
A French piece from the second half of the 17th century, likely from the workshops of Pierre GOLE.
