Jan Josef Horemans was a renowned master of genre painting, a highly celebrated Flemish artist and a chronicler of everyday life in Antwerp during the first half of the 18th century. This previously unknown and unpublished gouache on parchment features a faint, barely legible signature. However, both the overall composition and the specific details depicted in the artwork strongly recall his oeuvre. Elements such as the hanging birdcage, the screen by the fireplace, and the family gathered around the table are highly characteristic of his work. This exquisite gouache is in pristine condition and completely free of defects.
