Francesco Podesti, born on March 21, 1800, in Ancona and died on February 10, 1895, in Rome, was an Italian Neoclassical painter associated with the movement known as “Historical Romanticism.”
He painted numerous portraits of prelates, as well as mythological and historical subjects, and created many frescoes in Ancona, the Vatican, and Rome’s most important churches.
The painting presented here is based on the composition of the same name created by the painter Francesco Podesti and housed at the Capodimonte Museum in Naples.
