A Louis XV chest of drawers with two drawers, carved on all sides, adorned with a framed cube-shaped marquetry panel made from violet wood, rosewood and blackened pear wood.
The original top is made of Calcatta marble.
The chest of drawers features the characteristic and expressive fittings typical of Saxon court furniture, in fire-gilded bronze.
In terms of furniture design, the Dresden court drew inspiration from the Parisian fashion of the time. The pieces bear a strong resemblance to the creations of Parisian craftsmen. They differ, however, from comparable pieces in one key respect: these pieces are mainly made from softwood, and the quality of the exotic woods does not match that found in Paris. Nevertheless, this chest of drawers displays excellent craftsmanship, and the marquetry is precise and refined.
This chest of drawers has retained its original patina, as evidenced by the warm brown hue of the wood, which is more reminiscent of walnut and fruit woods.
The bronze fittings are of excellent quality, though their design still reflects the Regency period.
