Cast iron statue depicting an Oriental woman holding a torch in her hand. The torch is topped with a molded glass flame. Beautiful original patina. A piece from the Napoleon III era. Very good condition. Electrical wiring in working order.
This model of an Oriental woman was created by the sculptor Paul Fournier (1829–1925), a renowned sculptor who completed numerous public commissions, such as the monument to William Shakespeare on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris and a bust of Jean-Baptiste Chardin in the entrance hall of the City Hall of Paris’s 6th arrondissement. It was cast in iron by the foundry Denonvilliers, Société Anonyme des Fonderies d’Art et de Bâtiment, located at 174 Rue Lafayette in Paris. The original catalog from that period is included with this model.
