Offered by Galerie William Diximus
Of Dutch origin, J.F. Carabin spent much of his life in the suburbs of Brussels.
After studying art in Amsterdam, he devoted himself to his passion: painting.
From his many travels, he captured landscapes of Italy, Holland, and France, creating a faithful and personal depiction of small villages with their old cobblestone streets and deep valleys that evoke a sense of freedom.
His style is precise and detailed, rich in color. He received medals at art exhibitions in London, Amsterdam, and Brussels.
The painting depicts an alley in the old village of Olegano Romana, located in the hinterland of Rome, according to an old label affixed to the back specifying the date of the painting’s sale: April 15, 1888.
The painting is signed.
His works are held in museums in Belgium as well as in Prague, Ypres, Bonn, and Melbourne.
