This is a piece of furniture comprising, in its upper section, an oblong drum panel inlaid with vertical rosewood herringbone marquetry, which opens at the front via a curtain of slats inlaid with rosewood herringbone. The piece rests on four curved legs joined by a shelf veneered in the same rosewood. The lower section features compartments with five drawers, two of which open to reveal a leather-covered shelf serving as a writing surface. The piece is topped with an Aleppo breccia marble slab framed by a gilt bronze moulding.
An exceptional piece by the cabinetmaker J.F. OEBEN (1721–1763). A Parisian piece from the second half of the 18th century.
A similar model is held in the Louvre.
