This Chest is particularly interesting for its structure and composition, which are very simple.

The piece’s extreme solidity clearly points to its origins in a petite cognée workshop. The uprights, remarkably wide and thick, are joined using traditional mortise and tenon techniques, demonstrating that both legs and uprights were crafted from a single wooden plank.

On the facade, the four semicircular arches are extremely sober.

The lock, entirely medieval, fits well with the highly architectural ensemble of this piece of furniture, which can easily be dated to the first half of the 15th century.

The very fine quality of the walnut, its slightly honeyed color, the exceptional harmony of the composition, make this chest an interesting example of French Gothic furniture.
