Rare and elegant Louis XV period mechanical writing table with floral marquetry, stamped Delorme.
This table is distinguished by its end-grain marquetry, composed of a delicate radiating floral decoration, executed with great finesse. The motifs are inlaid on a rosewood background and highlighted by subtle violet wood frames.
The decoration on the top ends in curved and counter-curved corners of rosewood framed with violet wood. The cut corners are surrounded by a rosewood moulding.
The sliding top with mechanism reveals a lifting shelf and an interior compartment, designed for writing, including a space for an inkwell.
This system, discreet and perfectly integrated into the structure, made these so-called ‘transforming’ pieces of furniture highly prized in the 18th century, combining elegance, functionality and novelty.
This drawer-forming belt is decorated on all sides with curled rosewood, with an interior decoration of a leafy bouquet in violet wood framed by violet wood.
The table rests on four curved legs, with slender lines and chamfered rosewood, finished with fine enveloping feet with a stylised foliage motif in gilded bronze.
This table is stamped by Adrien Delorme under the front crossbar, renowned for the quality of his work, whose pieces are sought after for the precision of their marquetry and the elegance of their proportions.
His works are characterised by a beautiful balance of lines, a wealth of precious woods, and are regularly recognised for their transformations.
Very precious work from the Louis XV period, stamped by Adrien Delorme, master craftsman on 22 June 1748.
