Louis Eugène Lambert 1825–1900
French painter Louis-Eugène Lambert is one of the most sensitive representatives of animal and still life painting in the 19th century.
Trained in the tradition of the naturalist school, he specialized early on in depicting animals, particularly cats, but also birds and game, which he rendered with great accuracy of observation.
A student of Eugène Delacroix, unlike spectacular hunting paintings, he favored intimate, almost silent compositions in which the animal became the true subject of the painting.
His work is part of the realist tradition.
