Offered by Baptiste Jamez Fine Arts
Cut crystal and solid silver drageoir, silver 950/1000, by the Parisian master silversmith JEAN-FRANÇOIS VEYRAT.
The mount, of very fine workmanship, is decorated with friezes of flowers and foliage. The lateral handles take the form of cornucopias adorned with floral garlands, with escutcheon-shaped attachments and cut leatherwork motifs.
The ensemble rests on a circular pedestal foot set upon a quadrangular base, supported by four finely modelled floral feet.
The drageoir is surmounted by a cover, the finial formed as a naturalistic flower resting on a terrace of flowers and foliage. The cover is engraved with the monogram DP in Gothic letters.
The piece is complete with its faceted cut crystal liner, a work of high quality from the mid-nineteenth century, probably produced by one of the major French crystal manufactories such as BACCARAT or SAINT-LOUIS.

JEAN-FRANÇOIS VEYRAT
Parisian silversmith, active between 1832 and 1840.
Received as a master in 1832, JEAN-FRANÇOIS VEYRAT established his workshop at 10, rue de la Tour in Paris. He exhibited regularly at the Expositions des produits de l’industrie française, where he was awarded silver medals in 1834 and 1839. His work is distinguished by the refinement of its chasing and the elegance of its compositions, characteristic of Parisian silversmithing under the July Monarchy.
The VEYRAT firm ranks, in the mid-nineteenth century, among the most important silversmithing establishments in Paris, both for the scale of its production and the quality of its works. Today, its creations are preserved in numerous French public collections.
