Hector Michaut (1874–1923)
Rare molded and carved wooden sideboard, fitted with three frieze drawers and a single door in the lower section. Made circa 1900, it reflects the Art Nouveau aesthetic and belongs to the circle of the École de Nancy, of which Hector Michaut was a member. A highly talented cabinetmaker who has since been largely forgotten, Michaut here demonstrates his mastery through a finely executed naturalistic carved decoration featuring grape clusters and ears of wheat. The gilt-bronze handles enhance the refined appearance of this well-proportioned piece, a compelling testament to Lorraine craftsmanship at the height of the Belle Époque.
Dimensions: H. 163 cm – W. 144 cm – D. 56 cm.
