Oil on panel, signed lower left and dated 1894.
The first of the Mousquetaires to join the municipal school of painting and drawing in Rouen in 1869, Léon-Jules Lemaître was able, thanks to his strong technical skills, to enter the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. There he studied under Isidore Pils (1813–1875), Henri Lehmann (1814–1882), and Léon Bonnat (1833–1922)…
