Biography
Henri Petitot was a French lighting manufacturer, active in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century, and a major figure in the production of Art Deco lighting.

Born into a family of bronze artisans, Henri Petitot continued the tradition of a Parisian workshop founded at the end of the 19th century, specializing in the manufacture of decorative lighting fixtures. Inheriting this expertise, he took over the family business at the turn of the century and gave it new impetus, adapting it to the evolving aesthetics of his time.

It was under his leadership, in the 1920s and 1930s, that the Petitot company reached its peak. Henri Petitot developed a production emblematic of the Art Deco style, combining clean lines, balanced proportions, and high-quality craftsmanship. His creations included chandeliers, pendant lights, wall sconces, and floor lamps intended for a discerning clientele, both in France and abroad.

Lighting fixtures attributed to Henri Petitot are distinguished by their use of bronze, brass, or nickel-plated metal mounts, combined with high-quality glass, often pressed, frosted, or engraved. Attention to detail, the finishing of the bronzes, and the diffusion of light are hallmarks of the firm.

Recognized in its time for the quality and elegance of its production, the Petitot firm established itself as one of the leading Parisian workshops specializing in Art Deco lighting. Today, works attributed to Henri Petitot are sought after by collectors and regularly appear in specialized auctions, where they are prized for their refinement and their representativeness of the French Art Deco aesthetic.
