A rare Flemish carved walnut mirror frame.
The mirror set within a cartouche with floral and fruit carvings, surmounted by a figure of Charity, flanked by two figures of Faith and Hope, above a medaillon depicting Livia Drusilla, the spouse of Augustus.
Antwerp, second half 16th century.
Dimensions : 76 x 57 cm.
The carved strapwork of this mirror is inspired to the designs by Hans Vredeman de Vries (1527-c1606) and different Antwerp goldsmiths and sculptors such as Cornelis Floris (1513-1575), Jacob Floris de Vriendt and others.
