Directoire Period Amaranth and Lemon wood veneer Commode with Ormolu Mounts

This refined and elegant small commode features three drawers, the topmost accented by a gilt-brass astragal molding. The chamfered stiles are capped with turned bun feet. The surface is adorned with Honduran Lemon wood veneer within amaranth borders, highlighted by brass inlays. The chamfered corners are embellished with inlaid brass stars, triangles, and lozenges.
The commode is further enriched with polished ormolu mounts, including ring handles with rosettes, keyhole escutcheons, and ball feet. The top is fitted with a molded anthracite marble, adding a touch of opulence to the piece.

Historical Context: This exquisite French commode, typical of the Directoire period (c. 1795–1799), bears stylistic similarities to the works of renowned cabinetmakers such as Claude-Charles Saunier (1735–1807) and Jean-Joseph Chapuis, who became a master in 1796.

Dimensions:
Height: 33½ in (85 cm)
Width: 39 in (99 cm)
Depth: 23 in (58.5 cm)

Condition: The commode is in very good condition, with minor restorations and maintenance, including a French polish finish. The marble top shows minor chips and wear consistent with age.
