Japanese travelling writing casket, circa 1730

This lacquer casket displays a delicate lacustrine decoration in gold on a black ground, enhanced with mother-of-pearl inlays.
The corners and keyhole escutcheon in gilt copper are finely pierced with arabesque motifs.
The casket opens at the front with a door revealing four drawers, the interior with aventurine lacquer, one drawer fitted to hold inkwells.
It rests on four ebony bun feet.
