Napoleon III Carpet From The Aubusson Factory, Circa 1840

This exceptional tapestry features a finely woven coat of arms framed by refined Baroque ornaments. At its center, the heraldic shield displays a chevron accompanied by three stars — a motif traditionally symbolizing protection, nobility, and lofty aspirations. The shield is surmounted by a noble crown and supported on either side by a lion (emblem of courage and power) and a heraldic bird resembling an eagle (symbol of freedom and victory), underscoring its aristocratic origin.

On the reverse side appears a monogram with the interlaced letters “PC,” most likely corresponding to the initials of the noble family or the patron who commissioned the piece. The stylistic details — the ornate crown, the vivid red background, and the decorative scrolls — are characteristic of French heraldic art, recalling the traditions of Aubusson and the Savonnerie in the 18th and 19th centuries.

As a whole, this tapestry stands not only as a decorative masterpiece but also as a historical testimony to the French aristocratic heritage.
