Magnificent bedside lamp featuring a monkey carrying an umbrella, made of green patinated regulator. Art Deco period piece entitled ‘La Pluie’ (The Rain) with a frosted glass lampshade. The sculpture rests on an octagonal black marble base. The sculpture is in perfect condition, electrified, and the umbrella covers two screw-in bulbs. Signed on the base ‘Le Verrier’ and bears the artist's stamp ‘Le Verrier PARIS’. Perfect condition.
Max Le Verrier designed this lamp between 1925 and 1927. He regularly visited the botanical gardens, where he met ‘Bambou’, a three-year-old chimpanzee whom he found particularly amusing. A true friendship developed between Boubou and the man who immortalised him. Bambou would pose for Max Le Verrier in exchange for bananas. The sketching sessions lasted quite some time, and Bambou would eagerly await Max Le Verrier every morning to begin the sessions. This model won an award at the Salon des Humoristes in Paris in 1927.
